Backups
Back up your local GuroAssist workspace
Backups protect teacher-owned class records, learner records, drafts, generated files, evidence, and local notes.
When to back up
Back up before risky changes
Use Settings for local backup and restore work.
Before changing laptops
Paid access can move, but local work needs its own backup.
Before reinstalling Windows
Create a backup before reinstalling Windows or GuroAssist.
Before school-year cleanup
Back up before archiving, resetting, or cleaning old workspace files.
Before large imports
Back up before adding or changing many learner records.
Backup steps
Use a teacher-controlled location
Keep backups somewhere the teacher can find again.
- 1
Step 1
Open Settings
Use the global Settings screen for storage, workspace backup, and restore actions.
- 2
Step 2
Choose a safe backup location
Save the backup on a drive or folder the teacher controls, such as an external drive or school-approved storage.
- 3
Step 3
Confirm backup success and contents
Wait for the success message, then check the backup date, file location, and contents or integrity summary. The latest backup should be newer than the important class, learner, CPD, or generated-file changes it protects.
- 4
Step 4
Read the restore summary first
Choose the intended backup and review what the restore contains, its date, and the destination workspace before confirming.
- 5
Step 5
Stop at an overwrite warning
A restore can replace newer local work. Create a backup of the current workspace before accepting an overwrite warning.
- 6
Step 6
Cancel when the source looks wrong
Use Cancel before confirmation if the backup date, source, contents, or destination is not the one the teacher intended.
- 7
Step 7
Verify the restored workspace
After success, reopen representative classes, learner records, files, PMES or CPD evidence, and settings listed in the restore summary.
- 8
Step 8
Recover from a failed restore
Do not keep retrying an untrusted or incomplete backup. Keep the current workspace unchanged, note the error, try another known-good backup, or contact support.
Local-first safety
What backups protect
Backups are part of the local-first model.
Class and learner records
The records used by attendance, gradebook, forms, templates, and recognition.
Generated files and drafts
Local files the teacher has generated or prepared for review.
Evidence and notes
Teacher-owned PMES, CPD, reading, and support notes where supported.
Settings help
Settings is the global place for backup and restore management.
Do not rely on activation alone
Paid activation moves access to generated files and live AI. It does not automatically move local teacher work.
